change is good

dearest friends and readers,

in the chaos of my recent schedule, I somehow managed to forget the second anniversary of my beloved, the 14th. when I began this project two years ago, going on my blog was like looking at a blank map everyday and dreaming up the roads and routes and paths and trails that would run across it in beautiful striations...

on these virtual pages, I built highways and bridges and found road signs and directions to the corners of my mind and the recesses of my imagination, and I began to pursue a dream. it is hard to fathom the leaps and bounds that have been made in two short and swift cycles of the seasons, and here we are: back in autumn again, a season of change.

and change is good, friends. change is very good. right now I am working on so many different and exciting projects, and the 14th has been quiet, but ever-present, alongside these endeavours. as my energy flows into new and open doorways, through cracks and keyholes, I have come to realize it is time for this blog to take a rest and sit under a willow tree and navel-gaze for a while.

our time together here has meant the world to me, and no words of thanks shall ever suffice in expressing my appreciation for all of the support I have so lovingly received.

the 14th will always be a passion project of mine, and has a new life awaiting it in the next chapter. in the meantime, don't be a stranger. noahgano.com will be up and running on October 1st, and will be the future hub of comings and goings, so do stay posted!

with all my love and endless gratitude,

Noah Gano, the 14th

george & martha

I am thrilled to announce my upcoming exhibition, "george & martha" at The Department Gallery Mainspace:

Drawn to the human quality that coats our material surroundings, photographer Noah Gano saw life in two mechanical excavators and the decades-old warehouse they were demolishing. As George and Martha--of Edward Albee's,"Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"--they portray the troubled couple and the tumultuous evening that transforms their marriage.

Exhibition runs: June 29 - July 30, 2011
Opening reception: June 29, 7-10pm
Gallery hours: Tues-Sat, 12-4pm (or by appointment)

1389 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON M6J 1Y4

hoarders

lately, I've become more and more aware of how many photographs I am hoarding away in my computer, in the sub-folder of a sub-folder of a sub-folder of a sub-folder. even I haven't looked at them in a while... but I'd like to. and I'd like you to, too.

SNAP! 2011: 10th Anniversary

I was privileged and honoured to be chosen to be a part of the SNAP! 2011 silent photograph auction for the AIDS Committee of Toronto in March 2011. This photo, taken in a split second on a street corner in Vienna in 2010, is now on a wall somewhere in Toronto and contributing to the incredible work of ACT & SNAP.

cameraversary!

today is my cameraversary! in one year together, we've opened and closed our wide eyes more than 12,000 times; we've seen six countries, and looked into thousands of faces; we've slept in trains, planes, buses, and cars, lived in bags and slung over shoulders. one year later, and one parallel universe away... my camera sits innocently in one of its bags, dormant until stirred, sleeping like a baby. it begs to come out and play.

art battle 8

Art Battle 8 was off the charts! A Battle Birthday, if you will, as the event celebrated one year of living and loving!

I am honoured, humbled, and proud to have the privilege to photograph Art Battle. It is a gift from the heavens, a touch of magic, a bit of a miracle, and a heart-squeezing-good-time to be a part of the Art Battle team. Check out ART BATTLE online to see the highlights!

wine-drenched october

Friends, it is no word of a lie that there was a lot of wine in October. A LOT. Having had the privilege to attend a few "underground" wine tastings, I tried more than 60 wines over two evenings that I have never seen before... and many I probably never will again. This was nothing in comparison to the grand honour of being a judge in the Royal Winter Fair wine competition; bright and early on a Sunday morning, I began the testing of around 85 contending wines in no less than 5 categories.
Check out the results HERE and watch some interviews from the esteemed judging panel of Ontario's best and brightest in the food and wine worlds! n.b. I am not one of those individuals.

art spin 2010 finale

art spin is a bicycle-led art tour that takes over the west end once a month in the summertime. The phenomenal curator of the gallery I live (work) for curated a portion of the inredible art spin 2010 finale: a 10,000 sq. ft. raw warehouse space transformed into an exhibition of grand installations! Want to check out some of the photos?
Check out the full album HERE on the 14th's Facebook Page!

*flips pages* where did we leave off?

Hello, friends!

This has undoubtedly been the busiest autumn season in my recent memory. Make that long-term memory. It would be an understatement to say it has been the most exciting, too! I have not stopped documenting along the way, but there is so little time to look back when the forward view is always quickly approaching... I've taken some time to do so this past week.

So [flips pages]... where did we leave off?

these photos will disappear in 24 hrs...

[these photos have now disappeared...]
To mark the occasion of one incredible year of life, I want to share these three very special photographs that will soon be available as limited editions. This post will disappear in 24 hours...

one

the 14th is officially celebrating its first anniversary! It has been an incredible journey that I have relived this morning in its entirety, all of the peaks and valleys, the waterfalls and the droughts, the moments of true beauty and inspiration... and one thing has been true all along: since the day this blog was born, I have had nothing but the purest of intentions. What I give to you is from my heart and soul, and through this has come incredible discovery, adventure, and deep satisfaction. A path has been indelibly carved.

How can a 'thank you' be adequate gratitude for the divine, intangible gifts that have been bestowed upon me? It cannot be. So I shall give more, more than ever, and cast an ever-wider gaze at the horizons... truly the journey has just begun. And I thank you--from the bottom of my heart.

Humbly,
Noah Gano, the 14th
